Getting
Rid Of
Bed
Bugs
Bed bug
infestation is possible because these bugs
can come from many sources. Any person can carry them by clinging on
clothes
and baggage from an infested hotel room, or hospital ward, or any
places that
are constantly used for sleeping. Or through furniture that we brought
into the
house. Their bodies’ small and flat, bed bugs can crawl from
room to another
especially in condominiums and apartments or from one house to another
when
these houses are not sufficiently far apart. They can come in through
small
holes in the sink, pipes and boards.
During
daytime, they can hide in crevices and would
attack stealthily at the dead of the night. Worse, when they bite their
victim,
their saliva has chemicals that makes the bite painless and keep the
victim
from waking up. This makes it even more difficult to accurately
acknowledge
infestation.
Nobody of
course want that their houses and beds to
be inhabited by these parasites, as this signals that the place is in
need of
serious cleaning. What is tricky is that these bugs are small and
nocturnal,
making their removal difficult.
Getting
rid of bed bugs however can be simple. One
can hire the services of a pest control company, but this solution
comes with
additional expenses. In order to save money, you can avail their
service once
you have really made sure that an infestation is present. If you wish
to
conduct your own pest control, there are several, easy ways to do so.
Detection
is of primary importance. Bites of
bed bugs can be distinguished from fleas because they don’t
have red spot in the
center, and often appear to be welts on the skin when you scratch an
itch.
Another effective detection would be to switch on a flashlight an hour
before
dawn, or about four to five in the morning, the time for their feeding.
Do not
move or get out of bed, as these bugs are elusive and can move easily
out of
bed. Strobe the flashlight on the bed. Adult bed bugs can grow up to
4-5mm,
enough to be visible to the eye.
Detection
is important so that by the time you are
getting rid of bed bugs using chemicals and other procedures (like
washing and
machine-drying your beddings), your expenses will not be in vain.
